- Nevada Irrigation District has imposed mandatory 20% conservation for customers.
- Lake Spaulding infrastructure damage disrupts water delivery.
- PG&E aims to restore flows by end of July and August.
July 15, 2024 — Nevada Irrigation District  customers are under mandatory 20% water conservation due to severe damage to PG&E infrastructure at Lake Spaulding. This has cut off water supplies, impacting all NID customers in Nevada and Placer counties.
The lack of access to normal watershed runoff means the District will rely on limited water storage in Rollins and Scotts Flat reservoirs. This situation will likely have severe effects on lake levels and recreation opportunities this summer, as well as hydroelectric generation, according to the District’s website.
NID reported that PG&E is on schedule to restore flows through the Spaulding 1 powerhouse by the end of July and in the South Yuba Pipe by the end of August. PG&E crews are working around the clock to repair the damage caused by a winter storm rockslide.
While the repairs are underway, NID customers are urged to continue conserving water to help mitigate the impact of the disrupted water supply.
