March 29, 2024 — The Bureau of Reclamation announced yesterday a minimum of $3 million in funding for projects focused on emerging snow monitoring technologiesOpens in a new tab.. This investment underscores the importance of accurate snowpack data for water resource management.

Eligible Projects.

Projects seeking grants of $300,000 – $999,999 must include aerial LiDAR snow surveys. Focus areas for funding include:

  • Demonstration and/or deployment of emerging snow monitoring technologies.
  • Improvements to existing snow monitoring technologies.
  • Deploying monitoring technologies in underserved regions.
  • Using snow monitoring data to improve water supply forecasts.

Who Can Apply.

A wide range of entities are eligible, including water management districts, universities, state agencies, the private sector, local governments, Tribal governments, and non-profits.
